Buildings Charity
The founder Jon Bowles made a pledge to spend the rest of his life using the skills he had acquired through his working life to benefit and increase charitable output. The charity was formed and became one of the very few charities with a sole purpose of supporting other charities without precondition. The passion of Jon is to support another less fortunate and now Buildings had been borne by donating funds to help enable projects to be given life and the focus became enablement and sustainability. On many occasions Jon was questioned on his reason for doing this and followed by the old cliché ‘what’s in it for you’. Jon was perplexed at the question but on consideration the answer became obvious – the mission was to celebrate his life and leave a legacy to others that needed support and had been unlucky in life and unable to generate a quality of life most of us take for granted. The indirect support to other charities achieves far more than what could have been achieved on a one to one basis.
Most charitable endeavour is conducted from a building. Donors want to see their contributions deployed on services and not generate assets so Buildings set out to be a good social landlord and provide quality buildings purpose built and an affordable rent fixed for the life of the occupancy.
When charities enter into a lease with a commercial landlord many risks follow on repair liability and the long term commitment normally required. This requirement suppresses a charity that does not have secure income so an alternative was needed and this is what Buildings does to help.
Archie became the mascot for the charity as its not all about Philanthropy - its about everyday people pulling together to make a difference and working as a team. We all have capacity to share compassionately and Jon’s belief is that such an act enriches your life. View some of Archie's recent antics by clicking on the links below:
